To help prevent home accidents, Amazon Japan K.K. and a public entity that evaluates product safety signed an agreement Wednesday under which the online retail giant will share complaint information on consumer goods and home electronics.

The National Institute of Technology and Evaluation said it will analyze the complaints lodged with Amazon Japan and collect information on minor incidents and product misuse that could have led to accidents.

Amazon said this is the first time it has shared such information with an organization analyzing accident information.

Based on its analyses, NITE will issue alerts to consumers via news conferences, and Amazon Japan will do so by email.

NITE receives accident information from manufacturers and industry organizations. It also receives information about complaints and minor incidents from big retailers such as Bic Camera and the supermarket Uny, and is trying to expand that to other retailers.
