A port of call for a new friendship
"Peaches and cream" is how one would describe Kenzo, a stunning beauty with eyes that are a rare pale green. Kenzo had been found wandering the streets alone as a wee kitten and was brought to ARK. He’s now 5-years-old and really wants — and deserves — a home. Kenzo is cautious at first, but once he gets to know you, it’s in order to love you — and love you he will try. Kenzo’s expressions of love will have you laughing. Picture a grown cat, without warning, that suddenly throws itself to the floor and flops over, belly up. Yes, he wants you to rub his belly! Unfortunately, the only other rub with Kenzo is that his kidneys are weak. It’s nothing that can’t be managed easily, though, you just need the right food and at no great cost. Stress and loneliness are constant aggravators when it comes to the when health of shelter animals, even the strongest among them. Being of a more delicate constitution, Kenzo desperately needs something more than a shelter, he needs a safe haven where he can at long last escape the “ignoble strife” and be “far from the madding crowd.”

An old dog makes for a solid companion
Chibikoro arrived at ARK some 13 years ago when he was just a young pup. He’d been rescued from a place in Tokushima where dogs lived and bred at will with no real human contact. Sadly, this quiet, gentle dog is still at the shelter. Described as a “real sweetie,” Chibikoro is slow to engage with people, which most likely played a part in his not finding a home all these years. About 14 years old, he would make a wonderful companion, older animals usually do — even the shy ones — and Chibikoro’s trust barrier is easily breached through food. Making friends with this kind soul would undoubtedly be a rewarding and satisfying experience. Please give Chibikoro a home. Spending a life in a shelter is barely one, even if it’s as nice as ARK.

Caring for Candle and Chimney is a family affair
Candle is a 6-year-old cat who came to ARK with her equally gorgeous brother, Chimney, when they were only about 3 months old. The pair look a lot alike and are inseparable. If there's one difference then it's that Chimney is rather camera shy. Whenever he senses a photo session is in the works, he disappears. Even if he's found he won't sit for a photo.
