Princess Kako to experience U.S. home-stay

Kyodo

Princess Kako, a granddaughter of Emperor Akihito, will have a home-stay in the United States for about a month during her summer vacation, it was reported to a Cabinet meeting Tuesday.

The 18-year-old daughter of Prince Akishino, the Emperor’s second son, will leave Aug. 3 to stay at the Massachusetts home of an acquaintance of the prince and his wife, Princess Kiko, before returning to Japan on Sept. 4.

It will be the first time for Princess Kako, a freshman at Gakushuin University in Tokyo, to visit a foreign country on her own.

The family’s older daughter, Princess Mako, home-stayed in Austria when she was in the third year at Gakushuin Girls’ Junior High School.
