Hana Haru Festa 2020

The event has been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

Summer sees its zenith when awa odori folk dancers flock to the city of Tokushima on the island of Shikoku. In spring, however, the traditional tour de force will have a showing during the Hana Haru Festa, an event slated for April 18 and 19.

Taking part will be more than a dozen teams of dancers, who will appear at Aibahama Park, as well as Awagin Hall and Awa Odori Festival Hall.

There will be plenty of other highlights taking place alongside the traditional dancing, though, with outdoor performances of street dancers, including guest act V-raze, experts in hip-hop moves. (Yuki Yamauchi)

In line with the nationwide state of emergency declared on April 16, the government is strongly requesting that residents stay at home whenever possible and refrain from visiting bars, restaurants, music venues and other public spaces.
