The Events

The New National Theatre, Tokyo, presents the Japan premiere of Scottish playwright David Greig’s sensational 2013 play "The Events." This powerful work focuses on a fictional woman priest and the local community following 2011’s mass shooting on the tiny Norweigian island of Utoya by a right-wing extremist. In this production staged with two casts, after the atrocity.

In what will be her NNTT debut, “The Events” will be staged with two casts by the rising director and playwright Misaki Setoyama, who is highly regarded for her socially conscious productions. With the script translated by British theater authority Takehiko Tanioka, in a rare but welcome and business-savvy move for a Japanese theater, the NNTT is providing Japanese and English subtitles for all performances.
