Wakayama: Nachi-no Ogi Matsuri

Fire Festival, counted as one of the three grandest fire festivals in Japan.

Schedule & Key events:
from 11 a.m.: Shinto dances are performed in the shrine precincts
from 1 p.m.: Ogi-mikoshi, each decorated with 32 red fans and 8 mirrors, leave the shrine for Hiro-jinja Shrine, near Nachi Waterfall
from 2 p.m.: 12 white-robed men, each holding a big flaming torch, meet and run around mikoshi for purification in Hiro-jinja Shrine
3 p.m. mikoshi return to the main Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine

JR Kisei Honsen Line to Kii-Katsuura Sta. From there, take bus to Nachisan Bus Stop (30 min.)
