The Chunichi Dragons are considering acquiring former major league right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka, with whom the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks parted ways recently, sources said Monday.
The 37-year-old Matsuzaka, who also pitched for the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets, wants to continue his playing career and is looking for a new club.
Matsuzaka, who has won 164 games combined in Japan and the big leagues, was in the final year of his three-year contract with the Hawks.
