NAGOYA – The Hiroshima Carp’s Sawamura Award winner Kris Johnson was deactivated due to a case of pharyngitis Wednesday.
The 32-year-old right-hander was roughed up last Friday on opening day, when he allowed seven runs in 3⅔ innings. He fell ill Monday and developed a fever along with other symptoms.
