The Japanese Olympic Committee said Monday it is sending a total of 331 athletes to the Rio de Janeiro Games.
The JOC said 167 men and 164 women will represent Japan in Rio next month. It is Japan's third-largest group at the Olympics after Tokyo, in 1964, and Beijing, in 2008.
If the ban on Russian track and field athletes is upheld, the Japanese party will then add a men's 4x400-meter relay team.
