The Chiba Lotte Marines on Wednesday announced the acquisition of Dominican infielder Yamaico Navarro.

The 28-year-old, who joins Lotte after two years with South Korean club the Samsung Lions, has signed a one-year contract worth ¥140 million.

Navarro, who has major league experience with the Boston Red Sox, the Kansas City Royals, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Baltimore Orioles, played 140 games last season for Samsung and had 48 home runs and 137 RBIs.

"I am honored to be given a chance (by Lotte)," Navarro said in a club statement. "I want to repay them by playing well and leading the team to the championship."

Lotte had been looking to fill the void left by third baseman Toshiaki Imae, who has joined Pacific League rivals the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in late November, and Luis Cruz. Second baseman Cruz joined the Yomiuri Giants last month.
