TOYOTA, AICHI PREF. – Australia back-row forward Wycliff Palu, who was set to join Toyota Verblitz this season, has been dropped by the Top League club due to an injury suffered during the Rugby World Cup in England, the team announced Thursday.
The 57-time capped Palu, who had been playing Super Rugby for the Waratahs, agreed to a two-year deal with Verblitz in March. However, he suffered a hamstring injury during the Wallabies’ 65-3 victory over Uruguay on Sep. 27 that ended the 33-year-old’s tournament.
“Despite expending every effort to recover in Australia so he could play in Japan, he will not be fit to play in the Top League,” Verblitz said in a statement on the league’s website.
“It is with extreme regret, but after consulting with the player himself, we have decided to drop him from the register.”
