Table tennis prodigies, Mima Ito and Miu Hirano, came up short in the women's doubles final at the 2015 Asian table tennis championships on Saturday, losing in straight games to North Korea's Kim Hye Song and Ri Mi Gyong.

Earlier on Saturday Ito and Hirano had progressed to the final by beating Hong Kong's Jiang Huajun and Tie Yana without dropping a game.

Ito and Hirano were Japan's only title hopes in Thailand, as no other Japanese players progressed past the semifinals. Two Japanese men's doubles teams were knocked out in the semifinals on Friday.

In the men's singles final, also contested on Saturday, Chinese young gun Fan Zhendong beat his higher-ranked countryman Xu Xin for the title, four games to three.
