Major league players will not take part in the inaugural Premier 12 tournament this fall in Japan and Taiwan.

According to a Major League Baseball source Thursday, any player on a 40-man MLB roster will not be allowed to play in the Nov. 8-21 competition to be held in Tokyo, Sapporo and Taoyuan, Taiwan.

Minor league players can participate with permission from their teams.

Japan has been grouped with the United States, Dominican Republic, South Korea, Venezuela and Mexico in the tournament’s first round.
