Kashima Antlers are set to sign former Japan midfielder Mu Kanazaki on loan from Portuguese second-tier side Portimonense, Antlers president Shigeru Ibata said Monday.

The 25-year-old Kanazaki will join seven-time J. League champion Kashima on a deal running through January 2016. He could finalize the move as early as Tuesday, pending a medical.

Kanazaki started his career with Oita Trinita and moved to Nagoya Grampus before signing for German club Nuremberg in January 2013. He moved to Portimonense in September that year.

Kanazaki made his senior Japan debut in 2009 and has won five caps.
