Two-time defending World Cup champion Sara Takanashi finished seventh in a wind-blown women's World Cup competition on Sunday.

Organizers had planned to hold two competitions after Saturday's event was canceled due to high winds, but the weather interfered once more and forced the cancellation of the first half of a scheduled double-header at Yamagata's Zao resort.

When the action finally got under way, Takanashi jumped just 89.0 meters in the only round that was completed. Olympic champion Carina Vogt of Germany came first with a jump of 99 meters and 117.7 points to earn her first victory on the World Cup circuit, while Russia's Irina Avvakumova was second and Slovenia's Spela Rogelj third. Yuki Ito was ninth.

"Considering the bad weather, it's a wonder we got one jump in," said Takanashi, who won both of last weekend's competitions in front of her home fans in Sapporo.

"It turned out to be the best jump I had here, so perhaps it's something I can build on. I want to regroup and prepare (for the upcoming events)."
