Women's 53-kg wrestling world champion Saori Yoshida defeated Chiho Hamada at the national championships on Tuesday.

Yoshida, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, beat Hamada, the world champion at 55-kg, 53 seconds into the bout at Tokyo's Yoyogi National Gymnasium for her 12th national title which until last year was contested at 55kg.

Yoshida also extended her individual winning record to 192 matches.

Kaori Icho, also a three-time Olympic gold medalist, won at 58kg for her 11th national title, but Asian Games champion Rio Watari was beaten in the 63kg final by Yurika Ito.

In men's freestyle, there was a gold for 74kg world silver medalist Sosuke Takatani. At 57kg, London Olympic 55kg bronze medalist Shinichi Yumoto was knocked out in the first round and Fumitaka Morishita won the lightest weight category for the third year in a row.

Kazumo Kuramoto won the Greco-Roman 59-kg title and the 98-kg crown went to Norikatsu Saikawa.
