South Korean prosecutors on Monday fined Japanese swimmer Naoya Tomita 1 million won (about ¥100,000) for stealing a camera belonging to a South Korean media organization at the 17th Asian Games.

The 25-year-old Tomita had been ordered to remain in the athletes' village while awaiting punishment, after admitting last week to stealing a camera worth 8 million won (about ¥830,000).

He has paid the fine and prosecutors have asked South Korea's Ministry of Justice to lift the order stopping his return to Japan. The order is expected to be lifted in the coming days.
