IBF minimumweight champion Katsunari Takayama successfully defended his title for the second time with a unanimous decision against 10th-ranked Shin Ono on Wednesday.

Takayama sent Ono to the canvas in the 10th and 12th rounds at Osaka's Bodymaker Colosseum and victory saw him improve his record to 27 wins (10 Kos) 6 losses and one no contest.

Ono, who was taking his first crack at a world title dropped to 17 wins (2 KO), two draws and six defeats.

"I knew Ono would be a tricky opponent but actually fighting him I got a bit puzzled at the start and middle of the fight because of his unique rhythm," said Takayama. "I am glad I could win through."
