Former Japan midfielder Shinji Ono will join Consadole Sapporo in June after playing out the remainder of the current A-League season with Western Sydney Wanderers, the J. League second-division club said Thursday.

"I want to focus on the rest of the season and get results and then take the momentum with me to try and help Sapporo get promoted to J1," the 34-year-old Ono said in a Sapporo club statement.

Ono played for Urawa Reds (1998-2001 and 2006-2008), Dutch club Feyenoord (2001-2006), Bochum of Germany (2008-2010) and Shimizu S-Pulse before moving to Australia in the fall of 2012.

He has been capped 56 times by his country, including playing at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
