Japan placed second in the mixed team competition at a ski jumping World Cup event in Norway on Friday.

Japan at one point held the lead as Yuta Watase had a jump of 95.5 meters on the normal hill on his first jump and Sara Takanashi soared 100 meters.

But Norway's team of Maren Lundby, Tom Hilde, Anette Sagen and reigning World Cup champion Anders Bardal pulled away in the second round of jumps to win with 983.1 points.

Japan's Watase, Takanashi, Taku Takeuchi and Yuki Ito scored 966 for second and Italy was third with 899.
