The Japan Association of Athletics Federations on Monday named javelin thrower Yukifumi Murakami and distance runner Kayoko Fukushi among 39 athletes who were chosen to compete at this summer's London Olympics.

The 32-year-old Murakami, the 2009 world bronze medalist, and Fukushi, 30, were newly selected and will both make their third consecutive Olympic appearances.

The 27-year-old Shinji Takahira, who was part of the historic bronze-medal winning 4x100 relay team at the Beijing Games, also joined the squad heading to the British capital.

Javelin thrower Genki Dean of Waseda University, 20, is among 10 athletes who won titles and cleared the A qualifying standard at the national championships concluded over the weekend to book automatic Olympic berths. The 10 were formally named Monday.

Saitama Sakae High School sprinter Anna Doi, 16, who came second just 0.06 second behind Chisato Fukushima, 23, in the women's 100 meters at the nationals on Saturday, was selected as a candidate for the women's relay event.

She will have a chance to book a spot for London when the final selections are decided in July.

Hammer thrower Koji Murofushi, 37, had already been named to the Olympic team at an earlier date as were the selections for the men's and women's marathon.
