Reiko Tosa has scrapped her planned return to international competition at the Tokyo Marathon later this month due to a sore right groin, her team said Wednesday.

Tosa, who took the bronze medal at the 2009 Tokyo Marathon before heading into retirement to start a family, has been unable to train properly since taking part as a guest runner in last month's Osaka half marathon, which was serving as part of her preparations for the Feb. 27 Tokyo race.

The 34-year-old, who gave birth to a daughter last April, will put back her full marathon comeback until the autumn or later but is still aiming to compete at next year's London Olympics.

Tosa won the silver medal at the 2001 athletics world championships and bronze in 2007.
