Yokozuna Hakuho rolled to victory over komusubi Tochiozan in the blink of an eye Saturday to stay tied for the lead heading into the second week of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament.

Tochiozan (2-5) never had a hope of derailing Hakuho's title charge in the day's finale, the Mongolian bruiser steaming straight in to send his opponent out with a series of meaty shoves at Ryogoku Kokugikan.

Hakuho, who has won all 10 of his bouts with Tochiozan, shares top spot with 16th-ranked maegashira Tochinonada at 7-0. Ozeki wrestlers Baruto and Kotooshu remained one win back alongside veteran Wakanosato and sekiwake Kotoshogiku.

Tochinonada got an outside grip on Mokonami's (4-3) belt and tossed the 12th-ranked grappler down to the clay with a textbook "uwatenage" throw to maintain his share of the top spot.

Back in the upper echelons of sumo's premier league, former nightclub bouncer Baruto drew Tamawashi into his lair and dragged him to the dirt on a day of mixed fortunes for ozeki wrestlers.

Kaio dropped to 4-3 as Mongolian komusubi Kakuryu mugged the Tomozuna stable war horse at the charge and promptly turned him around and charged him over the straw ridge.

"Nothing's really changed," said Kakuryu, back on a roll after losing his first four bouts. "I have just been really trying my hardest (to turn things around)."
