The Yokohama F. Marinos said Thursday that defender Takashi Kanai has been questioned by police in connection with a traffic violation for driving without a license.

The 20-year-old Kanai, who had been selected as part of the Under-21 squad for the Asian Games next month in Guangzhou, China, has withdrawn from the tournament.

According to the J. League club, Kanai's driver's license expired in August last year due to an accumulation of penalty points but he was caught driving without a license Monday night when police stopped him at a checkpoint in Yokohama.

Kanai has been suspended from playing in any league matches and attending practices for the remainder of this season. Three team officials, including team president Akira Kaetsu, will receive 10 percent pay cuts over the next three months.
