Kanemoto pulls ahead of pack


Tour veteran Takashi Kanemoto shot a 4-under 68 on Saturday to take sole possession of the lead after the third round of The Championship by Lexus.

Kanemoto moved to 12-under 204, two strokes ahead of Makoto Inoue (67), Fijian Dinesh Chand (67) and Kazuhiro Yamashita (70), at Otone Country Club.

Looking for his second career victory, the 39-year-old Kanemoto made seven birdies against three bogeys.

Hiroshi Iwata and Ryuichi Oda were tied for fifth at 9 under after rounds of 68 and 70, respectively.

Shigeki Maruyama was another shot back after firing the day’s low round of 66.

Money leader Hiroyuki Fujita had a 70 to share 16th at 4 under.

Fudo cards 67

KITAHIROSHIMA , Hokkaido (Kyodo) Yuri Fudo shot a flawless 5-under 67 on Saturday to hold a one-shot lead after the second round of the Meiji Chocolate Cup.

Fudo, a six-time JLPGA money leader, birdied the fifth and ninth holes before picking up three more shots on the back nine to reach 8-under 136 at Sapporo International Country Club in Hokkaido.

The 33-year-old Fudo captured her 47th career title at the Chukyo TV Bridgestone Ladies Open in May. She won the Meiji Chocolate Cup two years ago.

South Korean Lee Ji Woo and Yui Kawahara carded 69s to share second.

Yuki Ichinose shot a 68 to sit alone in fourth at 6 under.

First-round leader Akiko Fukushima (75) dropped to a tie for eighth at 3 under.
