Speedskater Oikawa comes second

ERFURT, Germany (Kyodo) Speedskater Yuya Oikawa matched his season-best finish with a second-place run in the 500 meters at a World Cup meet on Saturday.

Oikawa crossed the line in 35.10 seconds, 0.13 behind Dutchman Jan Smeekens, in the first event after the Vancouver Olympics.

Ronald Mulder, also of the Netherlands, took third in 35.25.

Oikawa had previously finished second on Dec. 11 in Salt Lake City with a national record 34.27. In Vancouver, he ended 13th.
