Stosur sends Morigami crashing out

OSAKA (Kyodo) Akiko Morigami lost to third-seeded Samantha Stosur of Australia 6-1, 6-2 in the second round of the Japan Women’s Open on Thursday.

Morigami, a longtime member of Japan’s Fed Cup team who will retire at the end of the season, dropped four of her seven service games and never had a break point against the world No. 12 player.

In the quarterfinals, Stosur will play American Jill Craybas, who came from a set down to beat Mathilde Johansson of France 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.

In other second-round action at Utsubo Tennis Center, top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark eased into the last eight with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Briton Katie O’Brien.
