OTARU, Hokkaido (Kyodo) Ryo Ishikawa matched a career low with a 7-under 65 and took a one-shot lead after the first round of the Sun Chlorella Classic on Thursday.

The 17-year-old sensation made an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole and carded five birdies at Otaru Country Club in the runup to his PGA Championship debut in mid-August.

Ishikawa has received a special invitation to play in the final major of the U.S. PGA Tour season.

Australian Brendan Jones and Kazuhiro Yamashita sat one stroke off the lead.

Taigen Tsumagari and Yuki Ishikawa were another shot back. Shingo Katayama and Yuta Ikeda opened with 70s.
