Tennis player Kei Nishikori saw a drastic fall in the ATP rankings released Monday after the points he obtained for his victory at last February’s Delray Beach International Tennis Championships became invalid.
The 19-year-old Nishikori, who had climbed to a career-high 56th, fell 34 places from the previous week to 90th on the top-tier men’s tennis circuit.
Players must defend the points won during the previous year, otherwise the points are deducted from their total.
Nishikori struggled with soreness in his right elbow before making a first-round exit against Austrian Jurgen Melzer at the Australian Open last month.
