Yuta Kaneshima scored twice to give Hiroshima Minami its first national high school championship title with a 3-2 win over Kagoshima Josei on Monday.

Yuya Osako scored a single-tournament record 10th goal in its current format to give Kagoshima a 20th-minute lead at Tokyo's National Stadium but Kaneshima buried a knock-back to equalize moments later. Taiki Tanimoto swung the game in Hiroshima's favor when he rifled home its second 12 minutes before the break.

Kagoshima hit back through Shogo Nomura but Kaneshima stooped to head home at the far post to clinch victory midway through the second half.

"I'm touched by how much effort the players showed today," winning manager Kiyoshi Fujii said after his team became the first from Hiroshima in 41 tournaments to lift the title.
