Japan’s Under-22s made an inauspicious start to the final round of qualifiers for next year’s Beijing Olympics after struggling to a 1-0 victory over minnows Vietnam on Wednesday. Despite controlling for 90 minutes, Japan was repeatedly frustrated by defensive Vietnam and it was only a goal late in the first half from Naoaki Aoyama that spared Japan embarrassment at National Stadium.
