Yoshinori Okihara went 3-for-4 and hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly as the last-place Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles pounded out 17 hits against the front-running Softbank Hawks for a 7-5 victory in the Pacific League on Monday.

Okihara’s third-inning sacrifice fly gave Tohoku Rakuten the lead for good and Yuji Yoshioka followed with an RBI single that made it 3-1 at Yahoo Dome, providing support to Gary Rath (2-6), who won his second straight start after losing six decisions in a row.

Rath worked 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five. Kazuo Fukumori got his 10th save.

Seven of the Eagles starters hit safely, with Okihara, Yoshioka and Manabu Satake delivering three hits apiece.

Junji Hoshino (8-4) lasted just 2 1/3 innings in taking the loss as the Hawks lost their third straight game.

At Sapporo Dome, Lee Seung Yeop hit a two-run homer in the top of the 11th inning to help Chiba Lotte beat Hokkaido Nippon Ham.

Lee connected off Yoshinori Tateyama (2-4) for his 21st homer of the season as the Marines broke a 2-2 tie after blowing a one-run lead in the ninth when closer Masahide Kobayashi gave up a homer to Michihiro Ogasawara.

At Invoice Seibu Dome, Kazuyuki Hoashi (10-5) pitched a six-hitter and struck out nine in his first career complete-game shutout as Seibu snapped Orix’s winning streak at four games.

Alex Cabrera put Seibu ahead with a solo homer in the second inning and added an RBI double in the fifth. Shogo Akada went 3-for-4 with a two-run double in the third and an RBI single in the fifth.


Tigers 3, BayStars 0

At Koshien Stadium, Jamie Brown and three relievers combined on a seven-hit shutout as league-leading Hanshin blanked Yokohama.

The Tigers capitalized on two wild pitches by BayStars starter Ken Kadokura to take a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning before Andy Sheets and Tomoaki Kanemoto hit back-to-back RBI hits in the eighth to stretch the lead.

Giants 6, Swallows 1

At Jingu Stadium, Tuffy Rhodes and Kazuhiro Kiyohara homered and rookie Takahiko Nomaguchi threw eight strong innings, leading Yomiuri to a victory over Yakult, which lost its third straight game.

Rhodes opened the scoring in the first with a two-run drive off Masanori Ishikawa (6-6) and Kiyohara made it 3-0 with a leadoff shot in the third before RBI singles by Hiroki Kokubo and Rhodes helped the Giants extend their lead to 6-0 through seven innings.

At Nagoya Dome, Tyrone Woods hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning before an RBI single by Hirokazu Ibata and a Kazuyoshi Tatsunami sacrifice fly in the fifth helped Chunichi rally from a three-run deficit en route to the win.
