Japan's Shinobu Asagoe made quick work of German Julia Schruff Monday with a 7-5, 6-2 victory to advance into the second round for the second straight year at the French Open.

The 19th-seeded Asagoe, who is ranked 21st in the world, needed just 65 minutes to see off Schruff at Roland Garros, capitalizing on the German's 42 unforced errors compared with just 20 for Asagoe.

"I was focused in this match so I'm happy about this first victory. My plan is to continue this way taking each match one by one," said Asagoe, the top-ranked Japanese player.
