BEIJING – Japanese short-track speedskater Takafumi Nishitani failed in his bid for a podium finish, finishing fourth in the men’s 500 meters at the world championships Saturday.
Nishitani won his semifinal heat but was unable to keep the momentum in the five-man final and finished behind Canadians Francois-Louis Tremblay, who clocked a winning time of 42.106 seconds, and Charles Hamelin (42.135) and South Korea’s Ahn Hyun Soo (42.185). Nishitani finished in 42.541.
