Japanese teenage table tennis star Ai Fukuhara upended a higher-ranked Chinese opponent in a close match Saturday to reach the semifinals of the Women's Asian Cup.

Fukuhara, ranked 32nd in the world, advanced past her first-round, four-woman group by finishing second with two wins and one loss before ousting seventh-ranked Guo Yan 4-3 in a thrilling quarterfinal that lasted 1 hour, 3 minutes at Kitakyushu Media Dome.

Fukuhara posted an 11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 8-11, 3-11, 11-7, 15-13 victory.
