Japan slumped to its worst performance in 14 years on Sunday by finishing ninth in the team ski jumping event at the Nordic Skiing World Championships.

Daiki Ito, Takanobu Okabe, Akira Higashi and Noriaki Kasai combined to receive 409.5 points after the first round of jumps at the K-90 normal hill in Oberstdorf, Germany, and missed the halfway cut.

The result is the worst for Japan at the world championships since its team finished 11th in 1991.

The Austrian team of Wolfgang Loitzl, Andreas Widhoelzl, Thomas Morgenstern and Martin Hoellwarth won the gold with 970.5 points, edging host Germany by 6.5 points.

Slovenia took the bronze with 929.5 points.
