High school baseball powerhouses Yokohama and Meitoku Gijuku scored dramatic victories Saturday to advance to the third round of the the National High School Baseball Championship.

Yokohama outfielder Tatsuya Hashimoto doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Kanagawa school a 1-0 victory over Kyoto Gaidai Nishi in a second-round game at Koshien Stadium.

Meitoku tied their game with a two-run eighth inning before a two-out single by Fuminori Matsubara put the Kochi Prefecture school through to the third round with a 4-3 victory over Kumamoto Kogyo.

Fastballer Yu Darvish threw his second shutout in as many games as Tohoku claimed a 4-0 win over Ishikawa's Yugakukan.

Tokaidai Shoyo of Shizuoka blanked Okayama Ridan Fuzoku 3-0 on a shutout by left-hander Makoto Kawaguchi.
