Japanese challenger Eiichi Sugama was defeated Saturday by World Boxing Council featherweight champion Chi In Jin of South Korea on a technical knockout in the 10th round.
Sugama, a former Japanese national champion who was making his first world title challenge, landed a number of effective left-right combinations that left the champion stunned early on in the fight.
Chi, who was making his first title defense, dominated with overwhelming power as the brawl continued before sending Sugama to the canvas twice in the 10th round. Chi's record improved to 29 wins, including 18 knockouts, against two defeats and one draw. Sugama fell to 26-4-1 with 19 knockouts.
