Nobuharu Asahara beat Kareem Streete-Thompson by 0.01 second to win the men's 100-meter final at the Oda Memorial international meet on Thursday.

Asahara, who is gunning to become the first Japanese to clock under 10 seconds, crossed the finish line at Hiroshima Big Arch in 10.16 seconds with his rival from the Cayman Islands following in 10.17 and Hiroyasu Tsuchie taking third in 10.25.

The Olympic qualifying standard set by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations in the men's 100 meters is 10.21.
