NISHINOMIYA, Hyogo Pref. – Freestyle ace Sachiko Yamada set a short-course world record in the 800 meters at the Konami Sports invitational meet on Saturday.
Yamada marked a time of 8 minutes, 13.35 seconds at the meet in Nishinomiya, surpassing her own best of 8:14.35 set at the short-course national championships in April 2002. She outpaced her previous mark from the first half of the race before slowing in the latter portion en route to rewriting the record by one second.
