MELBOURNE, Australia (Kyodo) Japan’s Ai Sugiyama and South African partner Liezel Huber cruised into the third round of the women’s doubles with a comfortable straight-set win over local pair Casey Dellacqua and Nicole Sewell at the Australian Open on Friday.
Third-seeded pair Sugiyama and Huber needed just 55 minutes to beat the Australian duo 6-3, 6-2 and set up a meeting in the next round with the winners of the match between 13th-seeded Marion Bartoli and Myriam Casanova and Yulia Beygelzimer and Tatiana Poutchek.
Obata and Shinobu Asagoe went out of the doubles after going down 6-0, 6-2 to China’s Li Ting and Sun Tian Tian.
