The first round of the season-ending Japan LPGA Tour Championship was suspended due to rain on Thursday with all 22 competitors unable to complete 18 holes at Miyazaki Country Club.

U.S. LPGA tour regular Akiko Fukushima -- one of only four players including high school professional Ai Miyazato who finished nine holes -- held the provisional lead on 2-under as rain twice interrupted play before organizers decided to suspend the round. The remainder of the first round and the second round will be played Friday.
