TOMAKOMAI, Hokkaido (Kyodo) Last year’s money rankings leader Toru Taniguchi was among eight players who advanced to the quarterfinals of the Japan PGA Matchplay Championship on Friday, but top seed Shingo Katayama fell 1-up to Hidemasa Hoshino.
While Taniguchi beat Kim Jong Duck of South Korea 3 and 1 in 18 holes at Nidom Classic Golf Course, Taichi Teshima, who is currently second in money rankings, lost to Hirofumi Miyase 1-up in the second hole after regulation.
