Hideki Matsui and the New York Yankees are hoping to receive the final nod to open their 2004 season with a series at Tokyo Dome, the official Web site of Major League Baseball quoted New York manager Joe Torre as saying Friday.

"I'd have to say it's probably going to happen. There's so much talk about it. It's a natural. The Japanese people will have a ball with it, too," Torre said.

According to the story, MLB International is considering the possibility of the Yankees playing the Seattle Mariners, featuring Ichiro Suzuki, Shigetoshi Hasegawa and Kazuhiro Sasaki, but has yet to announce the teams and the dates of the annual overseas games.
