Right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched four shutout innings but came away without a win in his first outing of the preseason as the Pacific League champion Seibu Lions tied 1-1 with the Orix BlueWave on Monday.
The three-time All Star struck out five and gave up just one hit while walking two and Scott McClain hit a solo homer in the sixth inning to tie it after the BlueWave opened the scoring in the fifth.
Orix starter Satoshi Tokumoto surrendered four hits with four walks in five scoreless innings as he bettered his chances for a spot in the rotation.
