Yuichi Fukunaga claimed his second straight Grade One win Sunday when he guided eighth-favorite Eishin Champ to victory in the 54th running of the Asahi Cup Futurity stakes for 2-year-old colts.
Fukunaga, who won last week's Hanshin Juvenile Fillies on Peace of World, made it two in a row as Eishin Champ held off a late burst from top favorite Sakura President to win the 1,600-meter test on turf at Nakayama Racecourse in a record time of 1 minute, 33.5 seconds.
It was the first win in grade races for Eishin Champ, who claimed 60 million yen in prize money.
