Hiroshima Carp infielder Andy Sheets was selected the league's top position player after batting .351 with nine homers and 23 RBIs. In the Pacific League, Nobuhiko Matsunaka of the Hawks, who compiled a league-high 32 RBIs during the period, was named the most valuable position player.
