The box-office hit "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" grossed record revenues of 1.57 billion yen in the first two days since it opened Saturday in Japan, Warner Bros. said Monday. The previous record, 1.5 billion yen, was set by "Star Wars Episode I."

The number of viewers also marked a record high -- 1.38 million, outnumbering the previous record set by "A.I." of around 1.01 million viewers.

The distributor aims to break the record for total viewers and revenues set by the Japanese animation film "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" ("Spirited Away"), which reached a new record this year for Japan, bringing in about 26 billion yen and attracting around 20.15 million viewers. It is the latest offering from renowned Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki.
