Yamaha will celebrate the opening of a revamped music hall with a weekend of jazz and classical music.
"Opening Concert" is an opportunity for young musicians to take center stage as well as introduce the public to the new Yamaha Hall.
The Feb. 26-28 event will feature 18 artists.
The concert hall takes up the ninth and seventh floors of the New Yamaha Ginza Building. The top three floors feature lounge areas, and the sixth floor will house a salon room; which is a smaller hall that can host an audience of 100.
The rest of the building will be comprised of various music stores except the second basement floor, which will have a music studio.
The first day of the "Opening Concert" will begin with a small jazz festival featuring seven artists: Satoru Shionoya on piano, Tomonao Hara on trumpet, Eijiro Nakagawa on trombone, Terakubo Erena on alto saxophone, Toshio Miki on tenor saxophone, Kengo Nakamura on bass, and Shinnosuke Takahashi on drums. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.for a 7 p.m. start.
The following days will feature two gala concerts. Four artists will appear at the first concert: Hibiki Tamura on piano, Eriko Iso on violin, Kazunori Seo on flute, and Daisuke Suzuki on guitar. They will all play classical music. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. for a 4 p.m. start.
Five musicians will appear on the last day of the festival, including: Ayako Uehara on piano, Yurie Miura on piano, Mari Endo on cello, Tatsuzo Akasaka on clarinet, and Nanae Mimura on marimba. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. for a 2 p.m. start.
