Belgian conductor Philippe Herreweghe brings his acclaimed Collegium Vocale Gent to Tokyo on June 8. Over the last 30 years, the Collegium has established a reputation worldwide as one of the finest early-music groups, being especially well-known for its performances of German baroque music and, in particular, the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
For its visit to Tokyo, the Collegium will perform Bach's vocal masterpiece, "B-Minor Mass Messe h-moll BWV 232."
The Collegium Vocale Gent has also performed and recorded requiem masses by Mozart, Faure and Brahms and oratorios by Mendelssohn.
For this visit to Tokyo, the group includes soprano Johannette Zomer, countertenor Daniel Taylor, tenor Jan Kobow and baritone Thomas E. Bauer.
Philippe Herreweghe and the Collegium Vocale Gent perform at 7 p.m. on June 8 at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space, 1-8-1 Nishi-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo, a short walk from Ikebukuro Station.
